  GameStop Confuses Me
December 3, 2008 at 11:33 am

I’ve been wanting to get this off of my chest for a while, so here we go (Imagine that was said in a Mario voice for some lolz)! Anyway let me start off by saying that I’m not loyal to any one store, whichever store I’m closes to I’ll stop in and buy the games I want. The only reason I go to GameStop is because they get some nice pre-order goodies and I have some games I can trade in. Surprisingly enough this small rant will be about GameStop trade-in prices, fascinating, no?

So a week or so ago when I went to pre-order Chrono Trigger I had my two little cousins with me and they wanted to look around. They only have a DS and a PS2 so I first looked at the DS games then shuffled them over to the PS2 games. While they were looking at the wrestling games I noticed something out of the corner of my eye: Capcom vs Marvel 2. I picked it up and glanced at the box and saw the price tag: $79.99. I wtfed to myself and put it back and told my cousins it was time to leave.

Now this wasn’t a limited edition CvsM game nor was it in imported, it was just a regular game. Now on the internet I can understand the price being that high, if not higher. But in a fucking retail store? What the hell? Why isn’t it it’s regular price or fuck, cheaper? I mean I’ve looked around GameStop a lot and never noticed any games overly priced like that so why the hell was CvsM? I’m assuming they can jack the price up that high but it seems, I don’t know, wrong. On their fucking site they have it listed as $59.99 which is more reasonable then $79.99 but still fuck.

Anyway the other day I went to trade in five games: three old 2001 and 2002 sports games, God of War 2, and Metroid Prime. The total I got for those games was $8.somethingoranother. Now this pissed me off pretty bad. I mean fuck I can understand the sports games aren’t going to be worth a lot but sweet Mary mother of Jesus at least give a full dollar for them and not fucking 15 cents! I guess it’s my own dumb ass fault for thinking I’d get at least a dollar for them and more for GoW and MP.

Regardless of this I’ll still shop at GameStop but it just confuses me. They can sale me a six year old game (no matter how good it was) for 80 dollars but they can’t give me a full fucking dollar for three sports games? Just confuses the hell out of me.

Same here. Especially since I can get games new at Microcenter cheaper than they sell some of there games used. (Got Farcry and Manhunt both for 5 bucks, and a pack of good Clancy games for 6 bucks (Rainbow 6, Rouge Spear, and Sum of All Fears)

Not to mention that buying games at Gamestop pretty much hurts developers directly. Even if you buy a new game there, you're supporting a company that pushes used games. Screw that.

I actually have a "Fuck Gamestop" T-shirt... I should browse some games at GS wearing it sometime...

Word of the wise too- Don't trade in games at Gamestop. May as well bend over and forget to apply lube. You're better off selling them on Ebay.

Shit..you should be lucky, most stores I've came across don't even accept old sports games. This is due to the fact that no one really buys them. That probably explains why you didn't get your money's worth for those sports games you traded. However, I can relate. It is rather annoying.
