"Girl Gamers"

Mood: Why?

Okay, so this subject has be tossed, turned, experimented, flipped upside down, and hit in the head more times than Blizzard has changed shipping dates. If you woman or "girls" want to stop being discriminated against, then shut up! I'm really not trying to be rude about it at all but the more you feed this "girl gamer" title into the gaming society, the more and more you will be discriminated against and the more this ongoing "struggle" of yours will continue. So, I have come up with a temporary solution! Stop bitching, shut up, and stop the label "girl gamer". If you're a gamer, then you are a gamer, nothing more, nothing less. So, lets try that. Just play the game.

BTW, Girls aren't the ones who came up with the term "Girl Gamer". That's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the boys faults.

Agreed.

I agree with you TOTALLY and what that other guy had to say SOMEWHAT.. Because this part..

"- A highly modified profile page (that was obviously made by one of her male minions)."

..is totally uncalled for.. I love modifying my page and I don't need to get a little nerd minion to do it for me. >=/

I'm agreeing with Gary on this one. People just need to stop talking about it. Men and women. When people no longer give attention to the issue, things usually go away peacefully.

However, I gots beef:

As for Fisky's "especially professional ones (pictures)" comment...well...I just kinda rolled my eyes at that one. Just because a chick has a lot of pictures and "especially" professional ones in her profile doesn't make her an attention whore. I have lots of pictures and my fiance happens to be a semi-professional photographer but I would hardly count myself as whoreish even though I have decent pictures. If a lady has ones taken on her webcam with her boobies hanging out in her underwear, than yeah....That's dumb. However, I know a lot of ladies who love video games who happen to be models and/or enjoy getting their pictures taken...clothing or not. Nothing wrong with that. If women can't express their sexuality in an appropriate way (Read: I say APPROPRIATE), than you might as well throw into that group the dudes on here and other places who have their DP's and profiles full of themselves with their shirts off posing like a bunch of douchebags in the mirror.

Though I do agree with his "Alpha Female" theory.

Well I'm glad to see that at least you put it in a more terminal way than Gary did down there. I'm glad you weren't being an ass about it. I think what Fisky is reaching at, is the photoshoped pictures of girls and their controllers and them dolling theirselves all up in short shorts and really tight, tiny shorts. I'm not saying all female gamers are this way. My point to this Blog was to basically say, "Stop the girl gamer title, and just be a freaking gamer." If we put titles on girls for gaming then everyone will need a title. I'm the guy gamer, then there will be the Black guy gamer, then the vegetarian weinersexual gamer, so on and so forth. I'm not bashing woman that play games, but if they want to bitch so much about getting stereotypical shit, then they need to step back and look at it this way too. I did a small little study on the matter and walked into a gamestop wearing some rather redneckish clothes, would you like to know what they assumed my choices of games would be? You guessed it, Rapala's fishing and Caleba's hunting games. So, woman, you aren't the only ones being stereotypcially judged. I guess you could say it is a natural thing for humans to judge others on apperance and gender alone. I'm just tired of blog after blog from "girl gamers" talking about how they hate going into a gaming store and the employees assuming they are looking for Cooking with Mama or some shit. They aren't the only ones judged, men and kids alike are all judged by their apperance and gender when they walk into a gaming store.

I'm sorry for not clarifying more in my Blog abou this, but I hope this clears up some of the confusion, and somewhat hostile comments.

RIGHT ON MAN! I am soo there with you.

Right on Fisky, that was perfect, just the thing I needed to see. =] Good job. Mega thank you, I'm glad we aren't alone!

It's all about attention:

A good majority of people in this world want to be treated special for doing nothing (race, gender, genetics, etc. are what we're born with and effectively mean we did nothing to get them).
One phenomenon I studied (and wrote a paper about) during my tenure as a Psychology Major was the "Nerd (or Geek) Queen."

Our society conditions women to have control issues from the onset (see: "The Queen Bee") and to compete for "Alpha Female" status with legions of acquired minions (lackeys, fanboys, toadies, etc.) - consciously or subconsciously.

"Nerd Queens" or "Girl Gamers", immerse themselves in a sub-culture comprised of an overwhelming majority of males. This enables them to acquire more minions with less competition. "Girl Gamers" tend to perceive other women as threats and act hostile or apathetic toward them (especially when the challengers' aesthetics can rival their own).

A good way to spot "Nerd Queens/Girl Gamers" on sites like this:

- Lots of pics of themselves in their profile (especially professional ones, pics involving overtly sexual poses, etc.)

- Many blog entries that consist of self-centered or self-aggrandizing diatribes (especially long-winded complaints or "random" observations that half-heartedly try to be funny/cute).

- A highly modified profile page (that was obviously made by one of her male minions).

- Often makes attacks about someone else's appearances, etc.

It really is a poison to gaming communities and ruins it for everyone (Nerd Queens love conflict and enjoy watching their minions compete/fight for their attentions/affections).

I feel sorry for gamers that just happen to be women because "Girl Gamers" make them look bad. At the end of the day, it's gaming that sites like this care about and thrusting some sexually-charged obsession for control and attention ruins the experience for all gamers - male and female.

they don't necessarily have to stfu about it..they just need to not pay attention to what others say.

women always seem to find something to moan about, that ends up in looking like we're oppressing them!

You make a good point. Women do complain alot lol. I just wish they would stop the "girl gamer" title, a gamer is a gamer no matter what age, sex, or color. I mean they even have a girl gamer website lol. Oh well, I guess we can't have a nice gaming community, especially with how competitive kids are these days.

Don't worry, I covered this, and instead of calling me an asshole people agreed with me.

Yea, I had read that one, it was good. I wasn't expecting such hostile words from people. I wasn't being rude in the blog, just proving a point, that has been proven before, but not said like I worded. Oh well, some people just have too much sand in their vag.

tbh, i havent seen girls saying they are girl gamers on this site in a while. im thankful.
what helps irradicate the concept of girl gamers, is not writing pointless nonsensical blogs about it. take your own advice and "shut up" about the topic.
i was tempted to totally ignore the blog with the title you gave it, but well. i just felt like hammering it home that nobody cares

Well said, just thought I would throw my opinion on it.
