Street Fighter IV [Arcade] :: Game Review

4 Bumps

Mood: Animated

I have been a long time fan of fighters. Ever since Yie Ar Kung Fu hit arcades I have been plopping down quarters with the intention of thoroughly embarrassing my hapless opponent. I love the thrill and challenge of the one on one mental meta game that takes place against higher skilled opponents. There is just nothing like it.

My all time favorite is the Mortal Kombat series. Whenever a new iteration was released I was always the first to the arcades to play it and the first to the stores to buy it. The game that got me addicted to fighters though was Street Fighter 2. Street Fighter is hands down the best 2D fighter series ever made. So imagine my delight when Street Fighter IV was announced to be released. Heaven! The only problem was actually finding an arcade, let alone one that had the game. To be honest, I have been so busy with things that I never really followed up until last week.

I haven't played SF4 yet but there are 3 arcades within the vicinity that have the machines. My buddies have been playing the game quite a bit and have gotten quite good.

While I do miss my competitive SF3: Third Strike days, I'm not as into the fighting game scene like I was then. That said, I will definitely give it a shot to prep myself for online fighting madness!

Wow! Love the blog :D

I love fighting games a whole lot too. Ever since the 90's in my kid life lol. Loved the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series to death let me you. ^_^ Not to mention Killer Instinct (that I wish they would bring back) and Marvel Vs Capcom.

Plus the 3D ones like Tekken, Soul Caliber, and Dead or Alive series. But my favorite would have to be the Virtua Fighter Series. I remember back when I was playing Virtua Fighter 2 lol good times.

Oh and I almost forgot about the Guilty Gear fighting games too.
The fighting games I'm playing right now are Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Caliber 4, and Guilty Gear Accent Core. I may pick up Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe but I am looking forward to Street Fighter 4 when it hits consoles next year. I'm already enjoying the game on the arcades.

Street Fighter IV will be the fighting game of the year for sure.

I completely forgot about the latest Guilty Gear!! I don't know about fighter of the year though...depends on what Tekken brings. Then again, given the time frame alone from the last SFIV, it may help it for us die hards. :)

lol I like your blog because you actually talk about video games and stuff related too it. Keep it up.

As for Street Fighter 4 I will be glad to deliver a tall warm glass of beat downs when it comes to console. I'm a very big gamer and fighting games are one of my favorite genres. Haven't played it yet but when I have time I should stop by an arcade here in socal and play it.

If you live in SoCal you should definitely look up Family Fun Arcade. They house the best SF players in the west coast, bar none. They even have an annual tournament that some big-name Japanese players attend.

Thank you!

You should definitely at least give it a shot. I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the console release as well.

Lately I have been playing Soul Calibur IV and aside from the obvious "wackness" of the Star Wars characters, it is a great game.
