Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so as Hellboy and his team returns they must save the world from the rebellious creatures. Now, as the creatures who inhabit the spiritual realm gear-up for an all out attack on the human plane, the only one capable of saving the Earth is a tough-talking hellspawn rejected by both worlds.
So outside of having personal issues at this movie, I really really enjoyed it. I'll extrapolate below, but I will say the visuals were awesome. They were much better than the first movie as well as being much better than the ones in Pan's Labyrinth. It did have a strong feel of Changeling: The Lost (Google That) but that was one of the things I loved about the creatures they made and used for the film. Tooth Fairy, you'll know what I mean with that.
The Good:
Like I mentioned, the visuals of the film were superb. The angel of Death being my second favorite. My first, the Tooth Fairy(ies). I really don't want to say anything about them because they are just that cool and I don't want to risk people loosing out on the OMG factor. But everything was done in a very creepy yet I see how that works kind of way. Once again, hard to explain without ruining.
You get to see Abe kick some ass. Something I was hoping they would have don in the first film. It is in this one though. Totally showing off how lithe and agile he is. He is no longer just the smart guy/psychic. He gets his hands dirty in this one. Granted, not as hard core as the others, but he is no longer the bookworm he was made to be in the first film.
The drinking scene. I won't go to into it, but it was one of the funniest things I had seen in a while. Abe and Hellboy drinking beer and doing the "I Love You Man" kind of drunk thing afterwards. I won't say more, but think about it and then actually see it. I think you will agree with me.
The Bad:
First I would like to say the new character they brought into the film bugged the shit out of me. A+ for the concept, but C- on the execution. Every time I heard the thing talk, all I could think about was Stan from American Dad using a horrible german accent. Just not sure why they used Seth McFarlane for that voice. It just bugged me over all. His dialogue was also kind of... meh. Didn't add too much to the story. At least I didn't think so.
The other thing I wasn't too big a fan of is the writing in product placement that is becoming rampant. YouTube being the main culprit. Used heavily in Hancock and then written into lines just to have it in the film somehow. Not against product placement, but I mean, when they have to write a script to fit it in, it urks me. Just me being nit picky.
