Yeah, he shouldn't be saying that. He apparantly doesn't know a thing about statistics. In a huge crowd, there's a pretty good chance that there are at least a few people who aren't going to hell. It just isn't accurate for him to say that EVERYONE is going.



What he should be saying is "the righteous are justified by faith", or "whoever believes in him (Jesus) will have eternal life", or that "all have sinned".



And why would he say that college students are the biggest sinners??? Is it the premarital sex? Most people start that before college.



Basically, what this particular situation is, is one of two things. Assuming God exists, some people are under the very real threat of eternal torment, so someone should say something, though probably not what that preacher was saying. If he were wrong, then he's just mistaken. And a jerk, but I for one have more to worry about than whether or not someone is a jerk.



The best way to counter condescention from a religious person is simply to show that person, within the context of their beliefs, why a part of what they are saying is incorrect. For example, I would tell that guy that everyone has sinned and the severity or frequency of sins is really irrelevent, I would tell him that not every person he meets is going to hell partly because there have been good preachers doing their job right long before he came around, and I would tell him that actions speak louder than words and the best way to demonstrate truth is with example. It's not his place to control anyone's decisions, it's his place to be of service and offer help, as much as it's wanted.



Sorry you folks had to be subjected to that, not everyone knows what they're doing.

Something about "Why look at the sliver in your brother's eye when you miss the plank in your own". Indeed, I have a very hard time listening to others (pastor's, teachers, etc...) telling me I'm such a bad person when they are no better.

wow, you pretty much described my whole belief system right there. I mean there is no way that one person can 'know' that they are right and every one else is wrong. All i say is mind your own business, you think what you think and i think what i think, just let it go from there.

Being Christian, I am saddened when people like this appear. It gives those of us who DO mind our own business a bad name.

i will say christianity is wrong, in my eyes. all religion is. it's based on control of the weak and ignorant (ie almost everyone), and i'm all about learning.

I love running into people like that. Most of the time they can't defend their own religion outside of saying that "You are a Heathen for even questioning me!" Had that one thrown at me once when I brought up a contradiction in the bible that one of these people was spouting.

This is one of my huge issues with humanity in general. Some people just go to far and try to force shit on others because they them selves have a god complex they need to get out there.

Gawd I had to deal with that before...except I got called a Satan Worshipper because I am Wiccan. Blah to people. But I understand where you are coming from.
