With what you are doing with the background-color=transparent all you are doing is setting the color of the background, (which there isnt any since you are using a pic as a background). Best way you can accomplish this and make it work across ALL browsers is to edit the pic in a photo editor and set the transparency of it so you can see through it. This will also decrease the image file size and make it a little quicker on load times.

If you want this done and don't have the resources to accomplish it, I am willing to do it for you, just reply with a link to the image and I will make it transparent for you.

you can also use this image instead of trying to set options for the color transparency and it will show the background picture you have,

it is a fully transparent image

I think I know what you're saying.

What I just now thought of doing is measuring the width of the bar thing and cut my wallpaper to fit into it; to appear transparent.

In theory it'll work and I'll keep updated about it.

Never mind, I just tried to jump trough hoops to get the secondary background to show through the middle. The server side CSS seems to cover up the secondary by default. I don't think it was ever meant to take the place of the main background. Even with a transparency set to either the color nor an image.

You cannot set opacity of a div background without code that isn't allowed here. You can see an example of code-based opacity control that will function here on my page, but note that it controls the opacity of the div's background as well as the foreground.

A simple alternative to create a background with transparency would be to use a small (5x5px would do), low-opacity, image, in the PNG format with transparency enabled. Use the image as your background and you'll get the effect you're looking for.

If you want a totally transparent background, use a small, blank GIF with transparency enabled. You can use this one if you want; http://emazingek.com/images/linksm.gif

really all you have to do is background:none;

that'll strip away anything that background has set

Had tried that as a first solution w/ background:none;, but to have a full background stretched from side to side as the secondary background is being cut into twos, make it one.. Make the middle section (primary background) transparent to show the full background (secondary) behind it through, is what I was gathering what wanted to be accomplished.
