A bit of a hit and miss affair, alot of fan wankery from Kojima pretty much making Big Boss Solid Snake 1960's version, the new setting worked for the game and was good in the jungle (a bit of difference), but this game still doesn't hold a candle to MGS1 or MGS2.
Always seemed like Kojima targeted people who hated Big Boss for the events of MG1 and MG2, then tried to make us pity him as Big Boss seemed to get humilated time and time again during the course of the game.
One of the redemming qualities of this game was the character "The Boss" more than "Big Boss/Naked Snake", exploring his backstory (somewhat) and what led him to creating Outer Heaven.. which is more indepth in the PSP sequel Portable Ops.
I'd say this is a 7/10, despite the fanwank from Kojima basically making it up to us by making Big Boss an exact clone (no pun intended) of Solid Snake, and exploring a needless backstory, this game is still fun to play.
This is one of the games that i just sat down for 2 days straight and played through. Amazing.
This one really stressed the PS2. x_x
But other than lousy framerates and the occasional graphical glitch, it was a great game. Liked it more than MGS2 I think. I didn't like Raiden that much.
Stupid good. The "Snake Eater" theme song is super classy, too.
I used to hate MGS until I played this..this game's ending will make you want to cry too..very emotional..
