The thing about HDMI to remember is that there is only two VERSIONS of it as of right now. Going into a store you will see ones that say 3D enabled and certain mhz and frequencies and shit. But there is only two speeds that HDMI is right now. As long as you buy the second generation then you will have the best HDMI there is. No matter for $50 - $100 for monster cables or $10 - $20 for after market HDMI cables. But the size of tv does matter for FPS. It isn't like sex, the smaller the better in this case.. Trust from experience :) Except when it gets to small, then well.. Smaller isn't always better then. :(

There is a certain point at which a tv is actually too big for gaming unless you happen to be sitting across your house from it and need a huge one just to see. If you go too small then you have to strain your eyes to see what's going on which then leads to headaches or sitting right up on it causing possible cancer or whatever it is your mother told you would happen if you did it. I've discovered that a 32 inch hd tv seems to be the right way to go because it is neither too small to see or too big that i have to start moving my head around to see the whole picture. I guess in the end it is up to personal preference and/or conditions in which you play. Do your research on the different tvs available though because even though they may be the same size and have similar features, some are better for gaming than other or better for movies and there could be a drastic price range between manufacturers. I paid $250 for my 32 incher because it just happened to be on sale at the time. Good luck, and good gaming.
