The problem they ran into with 3 was that they decided to make it a 3D game. They had to make the maps smaller so that the computers of the time could handle it.
Rollercoaster Tycoon was a great game too. The first one in the series is my favorite there. I love the 3D in RC 3 but the game mechanics are kind of whacky. It is a little less of a simulator. For example, people will ride coasters that do 9 or 10 Gs.
The Simcity series is a tycoon type game and it is great if you want a simulation of a city. I think Simcity 3 was the bast in the series. Simcity 4 is alright if you download some of the user made mods that fix some of the basic problems with the game.
If you want to try more city builders then I would recommend Civcity Rome.
I found this site
http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3.htm which had the coast to coast expansion pack along with the 1.05 and 1.06 updates for RRT3. All three work without issue and are free to d/l, however make sure to add them in their proper order as prescribed on the page. They add some depth to RRT3 and even have the entire US map available. I have RRT2 for the PSOne, but I have a glitched copy that locks up if you progress a certain point. Guess it was a bad CD burn by the manufacturer. I need to get myself another copy down at the used game store.
I've tried Ski Resort Tycoon 2 and have a couple of the RCT games, but I just didn't get grabbed as much as with RRT3. I kept making too thrilling rides that would cause the excitement ratings to roll over and just became a pain in the ass for finishing levels. I've also picked up a SimCity multipak of games, but they also just seem to loose something as you play them more.
I'll be looking out for a copy of that CivCity Rome. Ancient history is something right up my alley.
