Jun 14, 2008, 12:13:33AM, What's your favorite FPS on PC???
cs:source ftw.
Feb 25, 2008, 12:27:58PM, Buying a new machine next month..
I recommend a site such as www.ncix.com where you can build a computer online and they test it a bunch and put it together. I recommend sticking two 8800 GT's in SLI. The ATI Radeon 3870X2 is also nice. It's 30% faster than nVidia's 8800 GTX.

Building a computer is simple, as long as you are careful and have some basic knowledge (i.e you know to ground yourself before touching parts, etc). I built one last week and put it together. Everything worked except the floppy because the cable was upside down.

Never buy a pre-built at a large store such as Future Shop, Best Buy or w/e. I spent $2500 on a computer that came with a crappy graphics card. 2GB of DDR2 or even DDR3 Ram should do you good. Don't try and save money by getting a crappy graphics card. Also, I recommend a Killer NIC Network card for extreme networkular (that's not a word) capacity. Anyways, Good luck. I suggest after picking your parts posting the list in the Hardware n' Software section on www.purepwnage.com Most of the people there have loads of computer knowledge, namely the mods. I always ask questions there. Ask if the parts are compatible and everything, or if anything, ask for their recommendations. They respond fairly quickly and are very knowledgeable.

Good luck, Don't strip the screws, and be firm but gentle. (If you are building).

Like I said, this is not the best place to get your PC advice. Hardforum.com

Killer Nics are useless if you're already running ethernet devices on most of these newer chipsets, most onboard gigabit nics (even though most people don't run gigabit with these nics) are more than sufficient for todays games. Most of the games out do not even need close to that kind of hardware. The Killer Nic is not going to show any performance gains on a PC with a lot of high-end hardware. All it simply does is process network traffic so the CPU doesn't have to. This is just a big fancy money sink that simply out performs the rest of the normal home consumer network.

DDR3 is not a fully platformed type of RAM yet. DDR2 is your best choice at this moment.

And where in God's name are you finding statistics such as "30% faster than nVidia's 8800"?

buying your shit from a company that will build it for you is horrible, not just newegg but plenty of sites have good deals. www.slickdeals.net check around that place, if you find something on there that you were looking for order it. paying a company to build your computer for you is pretty much a waste of time and money. it would take them an extra 2 days to build it and cost you at least an extra 200 bucks.

Once again, someone decides to run down the system building services companies can provide. BYOC is great, if you have no knowledge on how to build a PC however, getting the right company is just fine. Companies like Cyberpower will normally by default build you a setup with a warranty placed on it. So if anything components fail within the duration of your warranty, or you have problems, there you have it, no having to RMA components, or buy new components to replace failed ones because they had no warranty. Also sometimes these places will cut you pretty good deals. Common build prices on PCs on not the astronomical $200 you say they are. Usually a build fee will be somewhere from $39.99-$59.99 depending on the company. If you're unsure of the company you want building your PC, look at resellerratings.com, they're pretty much a non-bs online-industry marker for the ratings of online stores. I love it how I see people trying to run down these services that they clearly show they know nothing about.

"it would take them an extra 2 days to build it" So what about when you're buying parts from an online retailer and you get juked when they tell you that you have ordered something that isn't in stock, or no longer available and you have to either wait for the re-availability or go with a different choice. That kind of stuff can cause a weeks worth of wait on completing your setup. Online retailers, even newegg, while they do the best they can and most is pretty accurate, don't always have a 100% accurate listing of whats in stock and whats not.

And like bl!tz said, even though NewEgg ALWAYS has had the policy to sell all their merch below retail, they always don't have the best deals around. Sometimes buy manufacturer direct can score you some good deals.

gg uninstall.

im not knocking someone who cant build a computer, but its really not too hard. you cant really fuck it up, all he would have to do is ask. and read the quick install directions that comes with each component. i was simply saying that to save the money he should do it himself.

if you want to build a machine for 2 grand i could put you together some shit that would rape.

Eating right and a little exercise would help with those headaches. /thumbsup By the way... newegg does not always have the best deals around. "NT" though.

open up source and set your vsync at 60, and play for a bit. then change it to 30 and play, you will see a big difference, its pretty laggy right? the higher you go the less laggy it is, but once you get to like 60 anything above that is going to run just like 60 fps.
Feb 6, 2008, 6:25:55AM, CS: Source team

Jan 31, 2008, 9:41:08PM, Left 4 Dead
This game was from the makers of Counter Strike, so it is going to be great. I'm just happy that there is a zombie game that we can play online with our friends...I've been waiting for this for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Btw my friend Justin says he will pwn you all at NBA Live 08. Just throwin that out there.

wrong section.

valve is making l4d but i dont believe original counter strike devs are not making l4d

prove me wrong if you can. please.

They said so on Attack! of the Show.

And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_Dead First line says that it is a part of Valve, which is the makers of Counter Strike. And mind telling me how it is in the wrong section?

wow. wikipedia. your bright eh? forums or wiki are user submitted no truth is found there, usually.

and the original counter strike developers worked for seirra. they made the first counter strike.

You're the one that can't spell "you're" right. Bright one

2 things you should never discuss with friends...

1) Religion
2) Politics

Do we have a religion thread?

make one, this can get really heated. we should have a real political thread. a good debate is always fun!
