Nov 2, 2008, 1:56:21PM, PS3 worth it?
i mean seriously.... the PS1 and PS2 debuted with a $300 and $400 price tag.... the more advanced technology becomes, the more expensive it will be.

by one or dont. it your choice, so dont let someone else's opinion govern your own choices.
Nov 2, 2008, 1:52:59PM, PS3 worth it?

First of all, this whole ps3 being an entertainment system is kind of pointless. Using the points that "I can use it to access the internet, I can plug my keyboard and mouse in, watch movies and listen to music" is totally redundant. If this is what you want to do, don't buy a ps3, invest in a PC. It'll be able to do MUCH more! Second of all, the 360 is able to become part of a Windows Media Centre network (afaik the ps3 can't). This enables you to stream anything to and from it from anywhere on the network, and if you know what you're doing, you can do it from ANYTHING else, including a PSP or even a pda.

The PS3 is also capable of this and has always been the case. its very easy and i have a networked media server that streams all my dvds and other video clips including pictures to both my PS3 and my 360. the process is essentially the same for both consoles

As for the blu-ray, I see it to be kind of pointless. I've seen both a blu-ray dvd and a hd dvd, and to me..the different is impossible to spot, I can see no difference really. Secondly the discs can hold more. This means that the games will be bigger but they will also take one hell of a time to do and cost one hell of a lot more. The first games to come out for the ps3 didn't utilise the full space which made game loading times slower, thus making the extra space a redundant feature. On top of this you have more powerful processors which ALSO costs more and will add time to the development phase.

Blu-Ray is capable of so much more storage than what you may been led to believe of the magic 50 or 100gb size. there is no visual difference between BD and HDDVD in terms of video resolution because they both hold 1080 reolution but HDDVD can only do 1080i while BD can do up to 1440p.
the first PS3 games NEVER had slow load times, if there was, this wasn't due to "too much space", it was due to the fact developers thought the same loading protocols used on DVD would translate easily to BD-ROM, which it didn't.
the Cell processor is not "expensive" by any means of the word. its costs is relatively the same as a low-level 4 core PC processor, yet the Cell has 8 cores which no developers has yet to harness since its still in its infancy.
Development time is no longer an issue now as most developers have had PS3 development software 2 years before release

My last note would be that you have now lost the exclusive rights to the Tekken franchise. There are also rumours that the FF7 remake is not being remade for the ps3. One of my best friends has a ps3 and last night we had a conversation about this, from his understanding, FF7 was one of (if not the) biggest games for a sony a console, if you lose that remake there isn't much hope left. I do like the ps3 for two reasons. One being Wipeout HD and the other being the fact it's a linux system behind the works which pretty much makes the possibilities limitless.

The Tekken franchise was a license to publish the series exclusively for the console. most licenses from outside developers last for 15 years and can be renewed at any time for a shorter or longer period of time.
The FF7 remake is only a rumor and there has been NO OFFICAL word from Sony or Square-Enix that this is to come true nor is there any concrete evidence to prove otherwise. Square-Enix will still release all of their titles to the PS3 but Microsoft has paid an undisclosed amount of money for release date exclusivity on most previously exclusive PS3 titles, even "The last remnant" is still scheduled for a later PS3 release.

Ontop of all this there is a body called Offcom that is attempting to have a universal media format created so that you are able to play any game on any next generation console. Whether or not this will go ahead, or has already been turned down is beyond me..but hopefully if this was to go ahead, we'd be able to end this.
This is already been dispelled as there are copyright laws that prevent such a device from working. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony do not sell their own proprietary data, systems, software or technology for the sole purpose of being reverse engineered so that the operating systems can co-exist.
remember "Phantom" the console that was to download any current and future PC games that will be played with their highest settings available as an "on-demand" service with a subscription fee

All I want is for ps3 owners to stop bigging it up for the wrong reasons..as I first stated, it's a gaming console, if you want to access the internet and do all those things, then buy a god damn pc for christ sake!

You may have a valid point but sometimes we feel the urge to browse the net on our consoles and we always wanted web browsing on our consoles since online play came into the picture. not everyone has immediate access to a PC or laptop so they want to use their console.
Oct 4, 2008, 9:09:36PM, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
good story but way too short at 5hours
its obvious they have been steady, and some have even been very inexpensive.

i just bought a gateway from best buy... the FXxxxx.

640Gb HDD
6GB ram
Intel 4core @ 2.5ghz

Aug 10, 2008, 6:25:12PM, Building a PC for the first time!
newegg.com and tigerdirect.com have very good prices on pc components. some are available as OEM parts(much less in price, same product on retail shelves)

if you dont have a lot of cash, then you shouldn't be doing this.

look at best buy's gateway computers and you'll see for the amount they cost you'll have a sweet rig for less than you would put in, building from scratch.
Jul 31, 2008, 12:27:25AM, anybody subscribe to Qore?
you might as well buy the annual subscription..... it will end up costing MORE if you buy it individually.....

$2.99+tax every month....

in texas thats $3.24 after tax.... 3.24 x 12 = $38.88 for the year

vs. $27.05 for the full year plus you get the full version of Calling All Cars

i have the annual subscription..... but i waited too long cause the Socom beta was in the first month of its release and i waited 1 month later.

oh well, i got Calling All Cars for free, its a very good game to play with friends
Jul 20, 2008, 7:31:45PM, Reasons To Buy A PS3
your reason is because you want one next. you said it yourself. you dont need other people to justify your need. that is what researching is all about, to make up your own mind

the library is so vast its hard for me to pick even a few
Jul 9, 2008, 8:33:52PM, web browser
the media players and document readers are previous versions for many reasons.

one of the more major ones are that they are less susceptible to any spam, spy, and security exploits even if the PS3 is tough to hack in the first place (can never be too careful online)

youtube recently added some updates to their video players so im sure thats why some people have not been able to view certain media they were previously able to.

im also sure FW2.41 has something to do with this as well
Jul 9, 2008, 8:28:01PM, PsP memory cards

May 6, 2008, 3:42:48PM, explain you pwned name
Grey Ghost:

My favorite car that i have owned and had some major plans for it, and still do if i can find another, is a First Generation (chassis code FB3S) Mazda RX-7.

I called it the Grey Ghost because it was charcoal grey in color(aka Tornado Silver) and Ghost came from the fact that my friends almost never see me driving it even tho i drive all over town, and also because with the way the color is made, it kinda blends in with the amber/orange lights in a parking lot right when the sun sets and makes it looks like a ghost car.

i've owned it since Dec. of 2004 and the motor had a stock rebuild done in june of 2005. in Feb of 2006 it was hit by an idiot driver trying to get into the local Whataburger in heavy traffic trying to cross 2 lanes of opposite traffic. traffic started moving and he tried to zip right in before being blocked again and i was coming in the turning lane to take my turn and he hit my left side fender straight on.
he hit me really hard, the strut tower where the top of the suspension is mounted was touching the engine, which sat 7 inches away... needless to say, i was heartbroken, it was too expensive to fix for my insurance company, and it wouldnt have made a difference to get the front end realigned since the car would never handle the same again.
May 6, 2008, 3:12:03PM, what should i get? Ps3 or Wii?
i'd say FIRST, get the Wii.

theres something endearing when i play nintendo games, it gives me a lighthearted-ness that the PS3 or 360 cant really give. i always play Zelda and Mario Galaxy at my friends house.

i have yet to own a Wii, yet i do own a PS3 i must say just get a Wii, and the money you save from getting a Wii, you can put it towards the PS3 later on when you can save a bit more.
Apr 30, 2008, 10:54:39PM, Grand Theft Auto 4... No Loading Times?
the city environment(outside)itself has no load times. there are still load times entering certain shops, missions, and resuming a failed mission.
