My Cousin tried to explain it to me once... he thought the flashbacks were lame, the lack of a MP system and magic stacking was lame, the guardian attacks where overly cumbersome and overly cinematic... he went on for hours -- and yeah, he's in the camp of FF Fanatics who hate on FF8 =D I kinda tuned him out after 10min.

Hehe, FF8 actually gets a lot more bad press then I think is necissary. Most of the other Hardcore Final Fantasy junkies I know HATE it, personally I thought it was pretty good. But I spent so much of my younger life playing and replaying 3 that its really my favorite, with both 7 and 10 following, and 2 coming in a close 4th. Tactics is another one of my favorite games but I wouldn't rank it along with the other Final Fantasy's cause its a bit out of genre.
